Richard L. Hecht, CPA, is a Senior Consultant with Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. For eight years, he served as a Partner at the firm.

He has more than 40 years of accounting and managerial experience. His responsibilities as a Partner at Marks Paneth & Shron included developing business and assisting clients with their accounting and tax needs through the entire lifecycle of their businesses. Mr. Hecht specialized in consulting with law firms on management structure, partner compensation and profitability enhancement. Additionally, Mr. Hecht was a member of the Operating Committee, which advised the firm’s leadership on management issues, planning and policy matters. He continues to consult on key accounts for the firm.

After a few years of military service and working in private corporations, Mr. Hecht joined Charles Hecht & Co., a CPA firm that was founded in 1907 by his grandfather and later managed by his father. Mr. Hecht ultimately served as that firm’s Managing Partner.

For more than 25 years, Mr. Hecht managed Charles Hecht & Co and continued to grow its business, building it into a premier accounting and financial advisory firm in the New York area. That firm’s reputation for excellence continued in 2000 when it combined with Marks Paneth & Shron.

Mr. Hecht is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA). He has served as a Vice President of the NYSSCPA as well as the Chairman of its Tax Policy Subcommittee. He also was a member of the NYSSCPA’s Tax Division Oversight Committee. He is a frequent speaker about law firm management and accounting matters.

He has authored and edited articles for the CPA Journal. In addition, Mr. Hecht has developed a course on compensation for law firm partners entitled “Getting Paid What You’re Worth” that he presents several times each year.

Mr. Hecht donates a great deal of time and expertise to nonprofit organizations. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of Sound Portraits Productions that operates StoryCorps, a national program to record the life history of ordinary Americans. He was also a member of the Board of Education in his hometown where he continues to assist in planning and obtaining financing for its capital projects.

Richard Hecht holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Cornell University and a Master of Business Administration in Accounting from New York University. He is licensed to practice public accounting in New York.
