Ira Kevelson, CPA, JD, LLM, is a Partner at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. As a taxation specialist, he advises clients on a broad range of tax matters and business topics, emphasizing effective strategies and proper planning. His areas of concentration include high net worth individuals, real estate, tax free exchanges, estate and gift taxation, and trusts.
With over 30 years of accounting and taxation experience, Mr. Kevelson began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where he advanced to the position of tax manager. Subsequently, he co-founded Dlugash & Kevelson, where he spent 23 years as the co-managing partner until his firm combined with Marks Paneth & Shron in 2003.
Active in several professional organizations, Mr. Kevelson is a Member of the New York State Society of CPAs, the American Bar Association (ABA), and the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) where he is a member of its Tax and Real Property Sections. He also serves on the ABA’s and NYSBA’s Committee on Condominiums and Cooperatives. Additionally, he belongs to the Tax Section of the American Bar Association and has served on its Tax Accounting and Methods Committee. He has lectured before the New York State Society of CPAs on the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and has also presented on topics concerning: tax free exchanges, the tax cost of selling real property in New York City, and tax aspects of using relocation companies to assist employees.
In addition to his professional activities, Mr. Kevelson serves on the Board of Trustees of the Yeshiva of Crown Heights as well as on the Board of Directors of the LD Resources Foundation which provides educational assistance to the learning disabled.
Ira Kevelson holds a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Accounting from Brooklyn College as well as a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University Law School. He is licensed to practice law and public accounting in New York and has been admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals of the United States. Mr. Kevelson is based in the Manhattan office of Marks Paneth & Shron. He resides in Brooklyn, New York.
