Glenn D. Sacks, CPA, is a Director in the Litigation and Corporate Financial Advisory Services Group at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. With over 30 years of accounting experience in public accounting, securities litigation and private industry, Mr. Sacks has developed extensive knowledge of GAAP, auditing, and forensic practices as well as deep expertise in accounting for manufacturing operations and the high technology and real estate industries.
Mr. Sacks has worked at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP since 1997 as a litigation consultant assisting attorneys in class action securities litigation. He has served as the lead accounting consultant on many high-profile cases, including several of the largest class action settlements in the last 10 years. Recently, Mr. Sacks has worked on cases with the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. As a consultant, Mr. Sacks assists attorneys on complex financial accounting and reporting matters. He frequently handles cases involving revenue recognition issues, accounting for purchase acquisitions and related reserves, inventory obsolescence, impairment, construction accounting, and post acquisition disputes.
In addition to his work as a litigation consultant, he frequently assists professionals within the firm on matters involving software revenue recognition issues. Mr. Sacks also provides GAAP consulting services to public companies in connection with accounting for and monetizing intellectual property. In this capacity, Mr. Sacks works with the Center for Advanced Technologies, a nonprofit organization that advances knowledge about valuing and monetizing intellectual property.
Mr. Sacks has worked as an audit manager for Deloitte & Touche in its financial services industry group. In this position, he was responsible for the audit of both commercial and residential properties of a large insurance and financial services company and for assisting in the development and implementation of an Enterprise GAAP policy by preparing written policy backgrounds and assisting individual business units in developing statements of position and analysis. Earlier in his career, he worked for several medium-sized public accounting firms where he audited and provided tax services to mid-sized privately owned companies.
Mr. Sacks is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA). From 2004 through 2010, he served on the Professional Ethics Committee of the NYSSCPA.
Mr. Sacks has co-authored an article for the Practising Law Institute’s Legal Malpractice Course Handbook, entitled How Litigators Can Use Accounting Experts to Enhance their Effectiveness. He currently serves as a mentor for the Educational Outreach Program for Catholic Charities of New York.
Mr. Sacks holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Syracuse University and is licensed to practice public accounting in New York and New Jersey. He is based in the firm's midtown Manhattan headquarters.
