Kelly Kennedy-Ryu, CPA, is a Director in the Professional Practices Group at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. She provides accounting and auditing services to clients in the financial services, real estate and construction industries as well as the not-for-profit sector. In addition to traditional audit services, her experience includes solving technical issues for closely held businesses that require an extensive range of expertise including start-up entities, acquisitions, discontinued operations and bankruptcy.
Ms. Kennedy-Ryu concentrates on technical reviews of financial statements in a multitude of industries and related revenue recognition issues. She also plays a significant role in continuing professional education for the firm through the development of seminars and courses. Ms. Kennedy-Ryu also monitors the firm’s compliance with quality control standards and supervises the peer review process.
Prior to joining Marks Paneth & Shron, Ms. Kennedy-Ryu worked in the internal accounting, quality control and professional education arenas at two other large professional services firms. Ms. Kennedy-Ryu is active in creating an environment that focuses on technical excellence in the accounting field. She chairs the Nonprofit Interest Committee of the New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJSCPA) and previously served as the chair of its Compilations and Reviews Group. Her 20-year commitment has led to her being frequently asked to speak on new accounting and compliance matters by CPAs and controllers.
Ms. Kennedy-Ryu belongs to Soroptimist, which is an international organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world. She serves on the membership committee of her local chapter. In addition, she is a volunteer for the New Jersey School of Ballet.
Ms. Kennedy-Ryu holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Manhattan College and has continued her education with management courses at Rutgers University. She is based in Marks Paneth & Shron’s Manhattan headquarters.
