Robert A. Dyson, CPA, is a Director in the Professional Practices Group at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. He performs technical reviews of financial statements as part of the firm’s compliance with quality control standards. He serves clients in the financial services, real estate and construction industries as well as the not-for-profit sector, including entities subject to Government Auditing Standards and Office of Management and Budget circulars. In addition, he has established expertise in such topics as alternative investments, fair value measurement and impairment of intangible assets and investments.
Mr. Dyson has more than 35 years of experience in the accounting field. Prior to joining Marks Paneth & Shron, he worked at several large professional services firms. He has also worked for the United States Government Accountability Office and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in its quality control review division.
Mr. Dyson is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is a charter member of the editorial board of The CPA Journal and has participated in several technical committees. He has penned articles for The CPA Journal and other accounting publications. In 2006, he authored an article entitled “Basic Principles in the New Accounting for Stock Options” that won the Max Block Award for Technical Analysis.
He also serves on the Small Business Advisory Committee of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). This advisory group provides perspectives on the effects of proposed accounting pronouncements on small businesses to the FASB.
Mr. Dyson holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Science in Accounting from the State University of New York at Albany. Mr. Dyson is licensed to practice public accounting in New York. He is based in New York City at Marks Paneth & Shron’s midtown headquarters and resides in Wappingers Falls, New York.
