Howard Becker, CPA, is a Director at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. For over 45 years, he has been providing accounting and auditing services to his clients within the nonprofit, higher education and public sector arenas. His experience includes engagements involving audit, attest and assurance services, risk assessments, mergers, initial bond offerings, governance structures, forecasts, internal control and systems studies.

Prior to joining Marks Paneth & Shron, Mr. Becker was a Director with Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he assisted a varied roster of clients from public charities, private foundations, colleges and universities, social services and membership organizations.

Mr. Becker is a co-author of Not-for-Profit Reporting: GAAP Plus Tax, Financial, and Regulatory Requirements. This reference book provides expert analysis and explanations of not-for-profit accounting, external financial reporting and regulatory reporting in easy-to-understand terminology. He first began serving as the co-author of this annual CCH publication in 1996.

He has also written numerous articles and edited several industry newsletters at his previous firms. He has also led numerous training seminars for clients, professional staff, attorneys and industry groups on various topics relating to new accounting standards, governance, compliance, and financial reporting.

Mr. Becker is a member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA). He is active in the NYSSCPA, having served on its Committees for Government Accounting and Auditing, Not-for-Profit Accounting, Construction Contractors, and Lease Accounting. He also serves on the NYSSCPA Task Force on Government Audit Quality.

In addition to his professional activities, he serves as the Treasurer of the Plainsboro Free Public Library Foundation as well as the Library itself and previously served on the Board of Temple Micah in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

Mr. Becker holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brooklyn College. He is licensed to practice in New York.
