Single Audit Six-month Extension

On March 19, 2021, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued OMB Memo M-21-20 which instructs federal agencies to allow for an automatic 6-month extension for all Single Audits that have not yet been filed with the Federal Audit Clearinghouse as of 3/19/21.

This extension period applies to all entities, regardless of whether they have Covid grants that are required to be reported on the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA). The extension is not permanent but covers common future periods as per below.

How this may affect your Single Audit filing deadline:

  • Entities that have a fiscal year-end of 6/30/20 had a due date of 3/31/21 and may now file by 9/30/21.

  • Entities that have a fiscal year-end of 12/31/20 had a due date of 9/30/21 and may now file by 3/31/22.

  • Entities that have a fiscal year-end of 6/30/21 had a due date of 3/31/22 and may now file by 9/30/22.
