New York, NY - (September 24, 2008) - Marks Paneth LLP , the New York-based accounting firm, announced today that a new book by Warren Ruppel, CPA, Partner in the firm's Accounting and Auditing Group, has been published and released by CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business.

The 2008-2009 Edition of Knowledge-Based Audits of Nonprofit Organizations with Single Audits (September 2008; CCH) introduces current techniques for performing audits of financial statements, audits in accordance with Government Auditing Standards, and single audits in accordance with OMB Circular A-133. Mr. Ruppel is the original author of this comprehensive book, which he updates annually.

The Knowledge-Based Audit (KBA) is a risk-based audit methodology that emphasizes using knowledge of the entity to make the risk assessments in connection with a financial statement audit. The KBA approach is designed to facilitate the flow of information gained through the performance of risk assessment procedures and throughout the audit.

In addition to this book, Mr. Ruppel has written several well-respected volumes about governmental and nonprofit accounting and auditing matters, including GAAP for Governments, Governmental Accounting Made Easy, Not-for-Profit Accounting Made Easy, and Not-for-Profit Audit Committee Best Practices.

About Warren Ruppel, CPA

Mr. Ruppel has over 25 years of experience in accounting and auditing services for governments and nonprofit organizations. At Marks Paneth, he focuses on the government and nonprofit services arenas and acts as the firm's primary liaison on all business involving federal, state and local governments. Prior to joining Marks Paneth, Mr. Ruppel served as the Assistant Comptroller for Accounting of The City of New York, where he was responsible for all aspects of the City's accounting and financial reporting. He was also the Secretary of the City's Audit Committee.
