Nonprofits and Fraud: Are Leaders Too Complacent About the Risk?

The findings of a new national survey of nonprofit leaders suggest that nonprofit fraud is a bigger problem than some leaders admit. They may have a false sense of security when it comes to fraud risk and prevention. When asked to name their top challenges, only 1% of nonprofit leaders cited “fraud by staff”, according to the results of the Nonprofit Pulse, a leadership survey from Marks Paneth, and only 20% said their organizations have a “facilitated fraud risk assessment process”.
